Pune: Water Crisis Escalates in Vadgaonsheri as 50,000 Residents Face Severe Shortage
Vadgaonsheri, 26th March 2025: A severe water crisis has gripped multiple areas in Vadgaonsheri, affecting approximately 50,000 residents. Despite water tanks reportedly being full, residents are not receiving adequate supply, raising questions about the water distribution system’s efficiency.
The crisis has spread to Sainath Nagar, Wadeshwar Nagar, and Munurwar Housing Society areas, in addition to the ongoing shortage in Somnath Nagar. Residents of Dhanalakshmi Society in Somnath Nagar have been protesting for the past three days, with no resolution in sight from the water supply department.
Other affected areas include Siddheshwar Colony, Mahadev Nagar, Raghuvir Nagar, Samrat Regency, JP Heights, Gayatri Sadan, and surrounding localities. Residents report inconsistent water supply, with some areas receiving water only for an hour at midnight, often with low pressure and poor quality.
Former corporator Sandeep Jarhad, along with water supply officials, conducted inspections throughout the affected areas. Officials acknowledged that water tanks were adequately filled but failed to explain the persistent shortage, deepening the mystery surrounding the water distribution issues.
Yogesh Mastoli, a resident of Samrat Regency, expressed frustration over the four-month-long water scarcity, stating, “We receive contaminated water for an hour at midnight with low pressure. Officials only give assurances without any improvement in the water supply.”
The crisis has forced many residents to rely on water tankers, with some reporting wait times of up to 27 hours. Allegations of mismanagement and preferential treatment at tanker distribution points have further aggravated the situation.
In response to the ongoing crisis, residents plan to inspect water tanks themselves, accompanied by former corporator Jarhad, to verify officials’ claims of sufficient water availability.
Attempts to contact water supply department officials including Water Supply Chief Nandkishore Jagtap, for comments on the situation have been unsuccessful, raising concerns about the administration’s commitment to resolving the crisis.
