Pune: Farmers Demand 5x Ready Reckoner Rate for Ring Road Land Acquisition

Uruli Kanchan, 26th March 2025: Farmers in Kadam Wak Wasti near Uruli Kanchan, have expressed conditional support for the Pune Ring Road project, demanding compensation at five times the ready reckoner rate for their land. This stance was articulated during a recent meeting between administration officials and local landowners to discuss land acquisition for the proposed 65-meter wide road under the 2015 Land Acquisition Act.
The meeting, held at the Kadam Wak Wasti gram panchayat grounds, saw farmers clearly stating their position on compensation. While expressing general support for development projects, including the Ring Road, they insisted on a significantly higher rate than the government’s offer of 2.5 times the ready reckoner value.
Approximately 17 acres (67,581.54 sq. meters) of agricultural land in Kadamwakvasti is slated for acquisition as part of the Ring Road project. The proposed route will pass near River View City, connecting Bavdhi, Lohgaon, Wagholi, Manjri Khurd, and proceeding towards Fursungi and Wadki.
Ganpat Chavat, a local farmer, emphasized, “We are ready to give our land to the government, but only if we receive compensation at five times the ready reckoner rate. Otherwise, we will not part with our land.”
The meeting was attended by various officials, including Kalyan Pandhere, Deputy Collector of Pune Land Acquisition, and representatives from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Pandhere stated that the government plans to offer 2.5 times the ready reckoner rate as compensation, highlighting the Ring Road’s importance in alleviating traffic congestion.
Farmers also raised concerns about properties not included in the current acquisition list and inquired about compensation for these lands. Additionally, they voiced grievances related to other infrastructure projects in the area, such as the Pune-Solapur road widening and Shiv Road construction.
