Pune: Government Orders Fast-Tracking Of Caste Certificate Verification Cases Amid Growing Backlog
Pune, 1st April 2025: The District Caste Scrutiny Committee are currently facing a significant backlog of cases, prompting the government to issue urgent directives for the swift resolution of these pending cases. Each year, approximately 16,000 applications for caste certificate verification are received across the state.
With the new academic year fast approaching, the number of applications for caste certificates has surged. As of the end of February, a total of 56,207 cases were still pending with the committees. These cases include 49,566 related to education, 5,794 to employment, 31 for pre-service verification, 561 election-related cases, 214 other cases, two appeals for caste certificates, and 39 complaints.
According to regulations, decisions regarding caste validity certificates must be made within three months. In exceptional circumstances, the committee is allowed to extend this period by an additional two months. The Barati (government agency) has now ordered all committees to launch special campaigns to ensure timely issuance of caste validity certificates, prioritizing cases related to Common Entrance Test (CET) admissions and other urgent matters.
These measures are expected to expedite the verification process and address the growing pressure on the committees ahead of the new academic and employment seasons.
