Pune: Thieves Break Car Window, Steal Rs 5 Lakh Cash
Pune, 5th April 2025: A series of thefts in Pune, including two incidents involving large amounts of cash and one case of mobile phone snatching, has raised concerns over public safety. The three separate crimes occurred in the Parvati, Market Yard, and Sadashiv Peth areas over the past two days.
In a major theft near Mitra Mandal Chowk, unidentified thieves broke the window of a parked car and fled with ₹5 lakh in cash. The incident took place around 4:30 pm on Friday (April 4). According to the Parvati police, the complainant—a young businessman from the Market Yard area—had withdrawn the cash from a bank for his family business. After reaching Mitra Mandal Chowk, he parked his car, only to discover later that the window had been smashed and the cash box stolen.
Police have registered a case and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The investigation is ongoing.
₹1 Lakh Cash Stolen from Two-Wheeler Trunk in Market Yard
Earlier on the same day, around 1 pm, a youth reported theft of ₹1 lakh in cash from the trunk of his parked two-wheeler near Utsav Hotel on Satara Road. The youth, a resident of Dattanagar in Katraj, had come to the Market Yard area for work. While his scooter was unattended, the thief managed to snatch the trunk and escape.
A case has been registered at the Market Yard Police Station, and efforts are underway to identify the suspect using local surveillance footage.
In a separate incident, a pedestrian youth was robbed of his mobile phone worth ₹1 lakh in Sadashiv Peth on Wednesday afternoon (April 2). The theft occurred around 2:30 pm near Udyan Prasad Mangal Karyalaya, where two bike-borne thieves snatched the phone and fled the scene. The victim raised an alarm, but the suspects managed to escape.
A case has been registered at Khadak Police Station, and Assistant Police Inspector Anil Suravase is leading the investigation. Police are checking if this incident is linked to a similar recent case in Nana Peth, where a senior citizen’s mobile phone was snatched.
