Pune, 9th April 2025: In the age of smartphones and instant connectivity, Pune Rural Police have adopted a digital approach to combat illegal activities by introducing an innovative solution that allows citizens to file complaints via WhatsApp, eliminating the need to visit a police station.

Under the initiative launched by Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, a dedicated WhatsApp number – 9922892100 – has been made available for residents to report unlawful businesses such as gambling, illegal liquor sales, and other illicit operations.

Many socially aware individuals are often hesitant to report these activities due to time constraints or fear of confrontation. Recognizing this gap, Pune Rural Police have implemented the said system to simplify and secure the complaint process. Citizens can now submit information, photographs, or videos of illegal activities directly through WhatsApp from the comfort of their homes.

Police have assured that all complaints will be kept confidential and forwarded to the respective local police stations for prompt action. The goal is to respond swiftly and effectively to clamp down on unlawful businesses, especially in rural areas where such issues can often go unchecked.

Superintendent Deshmukh emphasized the importance of community participation in curbing crime, stating that this system would help build a stronger connection between the public and law enforcement while enhancing safety in society.

Authorities have urged residents to actively engage with the system, assuring them that if they witness anything illegal in their surroundings, they need not hesitate—just send the information via WhatsApp, and the police will take it from there.

The initiative is part of Pune Rural Police’s broader smart policing strategy aimed at leveraging technology to close the communication gap between citizens and law enforcement. The department hopes the success of this program will set a precedent for crime prevention and improve law and order across the region.
