Pune: Man Arrested for Razor Attack on Shopkeeper Over Extortion Demand

Camp, 11th April 2025: A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking a shopkeeper with a razor after the victim refused to pay ₹10,000 in monthly extortion money. The incident occurred in the Camp area of Pune on the evening of April 9.

The accused has been identified as Aftab Shaikh, alias Appi, a resident of Galli No. 10, Bhimpura, in the Camp locality. A complaint was filed by 55-year-old Zakir Tajiuddin Qureshi, a resident of V.P. Street, Bhopale Chowk, Camp, at Lashkar Police Station.

According to police, Qureshi runs a shop on V.P. Street. Shaikh allegedly entered the shop and demanded money. When Qureshi refused, Shaikh pulled out a razor, threatened him, and slashed one of his fingers.

Following the assault, Shaikh reportedly brandished the razor and attempted to intimidate bystanders. Police reached the scene quickly and arrested him.

The case is currently under investigation by Sub-Inspector Hanumant Tarte of Lashkar Police Station.
