Kalyani Nagar, 25th June 2025: In the high-profile Kalyani Nagar Porsche accident case that claimed the lives of two young IT professionals, the prosecution has urged the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to try the 17-year-old accused as an adult, citing the severity of the crime and alleged attempts to destroy evidence.

The tragic incident occurred on May 19, 2023, when the underage driver, reportedly intoxicated after a night out at a pub in Mundhwa, drove a Porsche at high speed and crashed into a two-wheeler, instantly killing a young male and female software engineer.

The prosecution, led by Special Public Prosecutor Adv. Shishir Hire alleged that the minor acted with full awareness and intent. It was further claimed that the teen’s influential family — including his father, a prominent builder — conspired to cover up the incident. Key among the allegations is that the minor’s blood samples were tampered with at Sassoon Hospital to erase traces of alcohol consumption.

“Despite his age, the boy knew the consequences and participated in actions to manipulate evidence after the accident,” Adv. Hire told the board, urging the application of Section 15 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, which allows for a minor to be tried as an adult in heinous offences.

In response, the defense counsel, Adv. Prashant Patil argued that juvenile law prioritizes reform over retribution and highlighted the minor’s clean record before the incident. “This was a tragic accident, not a planned crime,” he said, appealing to the board for a more rehabilitative approach.

The case is being heard by Principal Magistrate Garima Bagdodia of the Juvenile Justice Board. With final arguments now completed, the board is expected to announce its decision on July 15, which will determine whether the accused will face trial as an adult in this serious criminal case.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ganesh Ingale was present during the proceedings.
