Pune: CM Devendra Fadnavis Orders Immediate Implementation of Rs 288.17 Crore Bhimashankar Development Plan Ahead of 2027 Kumbh Mela
Mumbai, 27th June 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed authorities to begin the immediate implementation of the Rs 288.17 crore Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar Development Plan, ensuring comprehensive and high-quality development of the area before the 2027 Kumbh Mela. The approval for the Bhimashankar development project, which focuses on crowd management and enhanced amenities for pilgrims and tourists, was granted during a meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.
CM Fadnavis emphasized the need for a time-bound action plan, instructing that all development works at Bhimashankar, a major pilgrimage and tourist destination, be completed before the Kumbh Mela commences. The plan includes the development of eco-tourism concepts, creation of forest trails, ropeway facilities, improved accommodation options such as hotels and restaurants, and upgraded transport infrastructure including internal roads and helipad facilities. Special attention will be given to providing new shops for local businesses and ensuring uninterrupted power supply with a dedicated substation.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of robust security measures and the establishment of additional police outposts to manage the expected influx of visitors. The Rajgurunagar-Bhimashankar highway will be developed to ensure smooth traffic flow. The meeting was attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, MLA Dilip Walse Patil, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, and senior officials from various departments, who reviewed the detailed presentation on the Bhimashankar development works.
