Pimpri Chinchwad, 3rd July 2025: A 37-year-old woman suffered a life-altering injury when a dumper truck hit her scooter from behind in Tathawade on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2 PM, leaving the woman trapped under the heavy vehicle for nearly half an hour.

The victim, Swara Sanjay Pawar, who works as a staff head at a local gym, was returning home when the truck collided with her two-wheeler, causing her to lose balance and fall. Her left leg got crushed under the front wheel of the truck, resulting in severe blood loss.

Local Residents Rushed to Rescue
“The truck driver fled immediately after the accident, leaving the woman helpless under the vehicle,” said Sub-Inspector Ashok Dudhawane of Hinjewadi Police Station. “Residents of the area responded swiftly and used an earthmover to lift the truck. However, by the time she was pulled out, her leg was badly crushed.”

Police said the rescue operation took nearly 30 minutes. Swara was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were left with no option but to amputate her leg to save her life.

“We Had No Choice But to Amputate,” Says Husband
Her husband, Sanjay Pawar, an electrical contractor, shared the emotional ordeal the family has been going through.
“She was returning home when the accident happened right in front of our building,” Sanjay said. “I was working at a site in Hinjewadi when I got the call. By the time I reached the hospital, doctors informed me her leg couldn’t be saved. There is no possibility of fitting a prosthetic either.”
He added, “What’s even more painful is learning how long she was trapped under that truck. The driver just ran away instead of helping her. If not for local residents, things could have been even worse.”

The dumper driver was later traced and detained by the police.
“We have registered a case under applicable sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” Sub-Inspector Dudhawane confirmed. “The driver claimed that the scooter suddenly veered in front of him, causing the crash. He has been served a notice to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.”
