How Science and Math in Classes 8–10 Shape a Child’s Academic and Intellectual Growth

Pune, 3rd July 2025: Do you feel your child struggles with Math and Science in classes 8 to 10? It’s often not about capability, but about approach. Relying solely on memorizing formulas, instead of understanding the fundamental concepts and logical reasoning behind them, can make these subjects feel dull and difficult — and this struggle only grows in higher classes.
“Students who grasp the reasoning and scientific approach behind topics develop a genuine liking for the subjects, gaining a strong head start in their academic journey,” says Mr. D.C. Pandey, renowned physics author and Academic Head at Prime Academy Pune.
Many parents judge academic excellence by exam marks alone. This often pushes students toward rote learning, helping them score temporarily but leaving them unprepared when, in class 11, the ability to apply concepts becomes crucial. Topics from classes 8–10 frequently reappear in classes 11–12. Early mastery of these fundamentals, along with exposure to application-based problems, gives students a clear advantage in 11th — helping them move on to advanced problem-solving sooner than peers who may still be building their basics.
Most of the top 100 rankers in JEE and NEET are those who have gone through foundation courses in classes 8–10, highlighting the long-term benefits of building a strong base early on.
“Students who study for enjoyment, without the pressure of marks, tend to develop a genuine interest in the subjects. The primary objective should be to cultivate curiosity — the marks will naturally follow. This happens best when parents value knowledge over mere scores,” says Lalit Kumar, an IIT Bombay alumnus with over two decades of experience mentoring students, having guided more than 3,000 IITians.
Building analytical skills at a young age also sharpens thinking abilities useful far beyond school, benefiting future pursuits in competitive exams like JEE, NEET, NDA, and even careers in Commerce or Arts, where analytical reasoning is key for exams like CAT or UPSC.
Prime Academy is conducting special sessions for 8th–10th grade students to develop conceptual clarity and analytical skills. These sessions, available both online and offline, require just 4–5 hours per week, fitting easily into students’ schedules without disrupting regular studies or extracurricular activities. Since they cover core Math and Science topics from 8th–10th standard, they also complement schoolwork — helping students stay ahead while building interest and confidence in these subjects.
Parents are encouraged to let their children attend a few of these sessions (free of cost) and see if they spark a genuine interest in Math and Science.
