Pune, 8th July 2025: The first round of online admissions for Class 11 across Maharashtra has left a staggering 16.15 lakh seats vacant, according to official figures. Out of 13.83 lakh registered students, only 5.07 lakh confirmed their admissions during this initial phase.

The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) had opened up 16.70 lakh seats for students, while an additional 4.53 lakh seats were reserved under special quotas such as minority, in-house, and management categories.

Of the CAP seats, just 4.32 lakh were filled, leaving 12.38 lakh still unclaimed. In the quota-based segment, 75,796 students confirmed their admissions, but even here, 3.77 lakh seats remain vacant.

What’s more, over 1.24 lakh students who were allotted seats chose not to confirm them, highlighting potential issues with the seat allocation system or mismatches in student preferences.

Despite the concerning figures, education officials remain hopeful that the vacancy numbers will drop in the subsequent rounds of the admission process.
