Electricity Strike in Maharashtra on July 9: Power Supply to Continue as Backup Plans in Place
Mumbai, 8th July 2025: As six out of 23 employee organizations of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) have announced a one-day strike on Wednesday, July 9, the company has activated a comprehensive emergency plan to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the state. Authorities have assured citizens that adequate preparations are in place and urged them not to believe misleading messages regarding electricity outages.
To minimize any inconvenience to consumers, MSEDCL has set up a 24×7 war-room style response system, with emergency control rooms operational at both the headquarters and regional levels. Consumers have been encouraged to reach out to the company’s toll-free helplines (1912 / 1800-212-3435 / 1800-233-3435) for any assistance or complaints.
The strike call was given by the Joint Action Committee representing six electricity employee organizations, citing various pending demands. In an attempt to avert the protest, two rounds of discussions were held between MSEDCL’s top officials and union representatives.
Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra and Director (HR) Rajendra Pawar offered positive responses to several key demands and appealed to union members to withdraw the strike in the interest of consumers.
Emergency Manpower & Resources Deployed
In preparation for the strike, MSEDCL has arranged for alternative manpower and logistics to maintain operations. Staff from the company’s selection list, employees not participating in the strike, contractors, and temporary workers have been mobilized and stationed at local offices and sub-centers.
Control rooms will continuously monitor power supply conditions and provide hourly updates to senior officials. Contractors have also been asked to keep their teams, vehicles, and equipment — including transformers, cables, poles, feeder pillars, and repair tools — ready at all locations.
Additionally, all employee leave (except for medical emergencies) has been cancelled for July 9 to ensure adequate staffing during the strike.
Focus on Essential Services and Domestic Consumers
MSEDCL has prioritized power supply to essential services such as hospitals, water supply systems, mobile towers, and government offices. In the event of a power interruption, alternative backfeed systems will be activated promptly to restore service.
Citizens are advised to remain calm and cooperate with MSEDCL during this period. The company emphasized that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the impact of the strike remains minimal.
