Explore All 138 of Pune’s Tourist Sites—District to Launch Info App
Pune, 10th July 2025: In a bid to enhance tourist safety and improve visitor experience across its scenic and historical locations, the Pune district administration has announced the development of a dedicated mobile app that will provide detailed information on 138 tourist spots in the region.
The initiative follows a series of tragic incidents, including the recent collapse of a bridge at Kundamala in Maval taluka, which claimed the lives of four tourists. In response, the district has drawn up a comprehensive tourism development plan aimed at preventing overcrowding, reducing accidents, and streamlining access to accurate tourist information.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the app will provide visitors with essential details, including location, transport options, entry slots, applicable fees, available amenities, and safety guidelines. The app will also include updates on sports and adventure activities at each location.
“Tourists often lack basic information about travel routes, entry fees, local transport, accommodation, and food facilities. The app will ensure transparency and help avoid incidents of misinformation and fraud,” said Dudi.
Local Economy Hit by Tourism Bans, Stakeholders Demand Policy Overhaul
Meanwhile, tourism-related stakeholders have urged the government to reconsider its restrictions on certain tourist and trekking destinations, citing severe economic hardship to local communities.
At a recent press conference, trekking groups, tour operators, hoteliers, and transport providers highlighted how government-imposed bans on popular trekking and adventure tourism sites have brought their businesses to a standstill.
“The government shut down several adventure tourism destinations in Pune and other areas to prevent accidents. While safety is important, this move has severely affected local livelihoods,” said an activist.
Representatives from Giridharshan Trekking Club, Raw Adventure Solutions, Velha Agricultural Tourism Committee, and others proposed practical solutions to strike a balance between safety and livelihood.
“We suggest measures like mandatory online registration, limiting the number of treks, approvals for registered organizations only, use of local guides, emergency arrangements, and strict waste management,” said Satish Marathe, a veteran trek organizer.
Tourism Development Plan in the Works
The Pune district’s tourism plan includes:
Mapping and digitizing all 138 tourist locations
Creating structured transport and route data
Implementing visitor caps and time slots
Introducing a fee system for better facility maintenance
Making safety protocols and local guides mandatory for adventure tourism
“Our goal is to decongest peak hours, improve tourist experience, and ensure that the benefits of tourism are shared with local communities,” added Dudi.
The tourism app is expected to be rolled out in the coming months and will serve as a one-stop platform for both domestic and international visitors looking to explore Pune’s forts, dams, caves, heritage sites, and natural trails.
