Pune, 17th July 2025: The Pune City Police’s Anti-Narcotics Squad arrested three men, including a young doctor previously suspended from a private hospital, for possession of mephedrone worth ₹11.43 lakh in the Bibwewadi area. This marks the second time the doctor has been apprehended in connection with drug trafficking.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad alias Ayan Jarun Sheikh (27, resident of Undri), Samuel Balasaheb Pratap (28, resident of Hingne Khurd, Sinhagad Road), and Aniket Vitthal Kudle (27, resident of Narayan Peth). A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bibwewadi Police Station.

Police said that Mohammad Sheikh, originally from Jammu and Kashmir, holds an MBBS degree and was earlier employed at a private hospital in Pune. He was arrested in a drug trafficking case a few months ago and subsequently suspended from his medical duties. His re-arrest in a fresh drug case has raised serious concerns about recurring offenders in narcotics networks.

As per the police, the anti-narcotics squad was patrolling the Bibwewadi area when they intercepted a vehicle near a hotel and found the trio in possession of mephedrone. Besides the drug, a car and mobile phones were also seized, bringing the total value of seized items to ₹15.84 lakh.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Add CP (Crime) Pankaj Deshmuk, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle, Assistant Commissioner Rajendra Mulik, and led by Senior Inspector Prashant Annachhatre. Assistant Inspector Anil Suravase, Sub-Inspector Digambar Kokate, and Sandeep Shirke were also part of the action team.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed the Crime Branch to intensify the crackdown on drug peddlers in the city. Officials said investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the seized mephedrone and its intended recipients.
