Hinjawadi, 17th July 2025: In a major step towards easing traffic congestion in Pune’s IT hub Hinjawadi and nearby areas, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), along with other agencies, has initiated a crackdown on unauthorized structures.

On Wednesday, the joint enforcement team demolished 28 encroachments along the stream and drainage channels in Survey No. 166 of Maan village. In addition, unauthorized construction near the Mauli Hotel at the busy Wipro Circle was also removed as part of the action.

The operation is part of an ongoing joint campaign by PMRDA, MIDC, and other government bodies to tackle growing traffic bottlenecks in Hinjawadi, Maan, and Marunji areas—largely attributed to illegal constructions that block natural waterways and cause haphazard urban growth.

“A survey of illegal structures is currently underway, and appropriate notices will be issued to those responsible,” said Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Metropolitan Commissioner of PMRDA. He urged local residents and businesses to voluntarily remove encroachments and cooperate with the authorities to avoid legal action.

Superintendent of Police and Vigilance Officer Amol Zende echoed the warning and emphasized the need for prior permission from PMRDA before initiating any form of construction in the region.
