Bribe for Satbara: Pune ACB Traps Officer, Rs 2.10 Lakh Recovered
Talegaon Dabhade, 17th July 2025: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Pune unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Shivne Mandal officer and his associate while accepting a bribe of ₹2.10 lakh in Maval taluka. The trap was laid along Spine Road under MIDC Bhosari police station limits.
The arrested government official has been identified as Maruti Mahadev Chormale (53), a Mandal Officer. His accomplice, a private individual, was identified as Jayesh Balasaheb Barmukh (33), a resident of Chandkhed in Maval. A 46-year-old man lodged the complaint with the ACB.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Dayanand Gawde of the ACB, the case dates back to 2018–2019, when the complainant’s sister and 21 other individuals had paid ₹1.90 crore to a builder named Purnachandra Sanatan Swain for a development agreement of 38 gunthas of land in Kusgaon, Maval. However, Swain allegedly sold the same parcel of land to another party.
When the new purchaser applied for entry on the 7/12 extract (Satbara), the Talathi registered the mutation and forwarded it for approval to Mandal Officer Chormale. The complainant and others raised an objection to this change and filed an application.
Instead of acting impartially, Chormale allegedly demanded ₹2 lakh to cancel the updated entry and ensure the land title would reflect the names of the complainant’s sister and other original stakeholders. He directed the complainant to coordinate with his associate Jayesh Barmukh, who demanded an additional ₹10,000 for himself.

The ACB laid a trap during which Chormale accepted ₹2 lakh in cash, while Barmukh received ₹10,000 via online transfer. Both were caught red-handed and placed under arrest.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
