Pune: PCMC Launches Weekly Cleanliness Drive; Citizens Join Hands

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 19th July 2025: As part of the awareness campaign “Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao,” the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) launched a large-scale weekly cleanliness drive across the city, led by the Health Department. The initiative focused on markets, public toilets, and nearby areas to promote hygiene and sanitation among residents.

A special drive was conducted under the ‘H’ Ward Office at Ward No. 32, Rajiv Gandhi Vegetable Market, Old Sangvi. The campaign witnessed the participation of key officials along with municipal staff.

During the campaign, officials educated citizens about vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, preventive measures, home and neighborhood hygiene practices, waste segregation, and the need to avoid single-use plastics. The use of cloth bags was also promoted as part of an eco-friendly lifestyle.

The team removed litter, dry leaves, plastic, paper, and other waste materials to restore cleanliness in the area. Local residents participated enthusiastically and supported the corporation’s efforts.

To engage the community more effectively, PCMC organized folk performances such as street plays and Bharud to communicate messages about waste management, plastic bans, and the importance of public hygiene. These creative methods enhanced the impact of the campaign.

The weekly drive was conducted city-wide through all eight ward offices, with each organizing special cleanliness activities and administering a pledge to reduce plastic use.
