Brothel in Budhwar Peth Sealed for Three Years Under Pune Police Commissioner’s ‘No Tolerance’ Policy
Pune, 30th July 2025: A brothel in Pune’s Budhwar Peth has been sealed for three years after a minor girl from Bangladesh was allegedly forced into prostitution, sparking swift police action under the “No Tolerance” policy initiated by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.
A complaint filed at the Faraskhana Police Station led to the incident’s discovery. Two people have been taken into custody in relation to the case. The authorities claim that the accused forced the young girl into the sex trade by luring her into India.
After gathering sufficient evidence, Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme submitted a proposal to seal the premises.
Amitesh Kumar, the Additional District Magistrate and Police Commissioner, issued an order to seal the brothel in compliance with Section 18(1)(a) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The enforcement was carried out on July 28 in the presence of two panch witnesses. The premises—Flat No. 18/A, Third Floor, New Building, Budhwar Peth—was officially sealed.
The action was conducted under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner Krishikesh Rawale, and Assistant Commissioner Anuja Deshmane.
Police officials stated that the operation is part of an ongoing effort to crack down on human trafficking and illegal sex trade in the city, particularly cases involving minors and foreign nationals. Investigations are continuing to identify others involved in the trafficking network.
