Pune, 30th July 2025: Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has expressed deep regret and directed strict action against alleged right-wing miscreants who reportedly entered homes of Muslim families in Chandan Nagar and attempted to label them as Bangladeshi nationals. The order came after a delegation led by the National Conference for Minorities (NCM), including affected families and activists, met the Commissioner today.

NCM President Rahul Dambale said that the families, including former servicemen, narrated the entire incident to the Commissioner, who termed it “deeply unfortunate” and assured that those responsible would face stringent legal consequences. “Such acts against families who have served in the armed forces are unacceptable. Strict action will be taken,” Kumar said.

Dambale shared details, saying that on the night of 26th July, individuals claiming to represent Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and other groups under the ‘Sakal Hindu Samaj Vadgaonsheri’ banner allegedly stormed the residence of Shamshad Shaikh in Chandan Nagar. They reportedly harassed the family, accusing them of being Rohingya or Bangladeshi nationals. Despite filing complaints, the victims claimed no action was initially taken, prompting them to approach senior police officials.

Present at the meeting were Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Manoj Kumar Patil, and other senior officers. Human rights activist Adv. Asim Sarode, along with several community members and supporters, also attended, including Shahabuddin Shaikh, Wasim Sayyed, Afzal Khan, Azhar Khan, Mufti Shahid, Adv. Tausif Shaikh, and others.

Pune CP Amitesh Kumar said, “No act inciting religious hatred will be tolerated in Pune. Those attempting to spread misinformation or push personal agendas will face severe consequences. No one in this city should live in fear. We are fully capable of taking action against troublemakers.”

Rahul Dambale, NCM President said, “Deliberate attempts are being made to polarize Pune along religious lines by repeat offenders and specific organisations. Strong legal action is crucial. The NCM will continue its fight against such divisive forces with even greater intensity.”
