Wagholi, 2nd August 2025: Four youths have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a private luxury bus driver, conductor, and a passenger before fleeing with ₹7,600 in cash near Bakori Phata, Wagholi, late on the night of July 24.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sahil Bawale (22), a resident of Koregaon Bhima; Omkar Sakore (21) from Wagholi; and Mahesh Kawade (22) and Nitin Chapani (20), both from Bakori Phata.

According to Pune city police, the incident occurred around 11:45 PM when the luxury bus was parked on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road near Bakori Phata, awaiting passengers. The accused arrived in a car, confronted the bus crew and a passenger, and forcibly took away cash before fleeing the spot.

Senior Police Inspector Yuvraj Hande, in charge of the Lonikand police station, which oversees Wagholi, said, “The attackers appeared to be intoxicated at the time. Based on eyewitness accounts and technical evidence, including CCTV footage from a nearby liquor shop, we were able to track down the suspects swiftly.”

He added that the suspects’ identities were established from the surveillance footage, which showed them shortly before the crime. “Following their arrest, we recovered the stolen cash and seized the car used in the crime. The total recovery, including the vehicle, is valued at approximately ₹2.07 lakh,” Hande said.

The four accused are currently in police custody and are being interrogated for their involvement in similar incidents in the area. Further investigation is underway.
