Players from 9 Countries in Action at Late Sushant Chipalkatti Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Grand Prix Badminton Tournament
Pune, 23rd August 2025: Rounak Chouhan and Ishita Negi of India will lead boys and girls from 9 countries at the Late Sushant Chipalkatti Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Grand Prix Badminton Tournament. The event is being organized by the Poona District Metropolitan Badminton Association (PDMBA) under the auspices of BWF, BA, BAI, and MBA, and will be played at the P. E. Society’s Modern PDMBA Sports Complex, Shivajinagar from 26th to 31st August 2025.
Mr. Shashank Halbe, Senior Vice President of PDMBA said that, This prestigious tournament, held in memory of the late Sushant Chipalkatti, has become a key fixture in the international junior badminton calendar. A total of 296 players from 9 countries—including India, England, UAE, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Ireland—will be seen in action during the event. The tournament promises to be an exciting showcase of some of the world’s best young badminton talent.
CA Ranjit Natu, Hon. Gen. Secretary of the PDMBA said that, “We are honored to host this tournament in memory of Sushant Chipalkatti, a talented player who left us too soon. The event not only serves as a tribute to his passion for badminton but also provides a platform for young athletes to compete at the highest level and further their careers.” It is one of the 4 grand prix events held worldwide and the only event bigger than this is the junior world championship. This is event is the only official event in any sport organised directly by the world federation in pune.
Sarang Lagu, Treasurer, PDMBA said that “Over the years, this tournament has grown in stature and reputation. Hosting players from across the globe is a matter of pride for Pune and for our association. It gives our young Indian shuttlers a unique chance to test their skills against top international talent.”

In previous editions, renowned Indian badminton stars such as Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Srikanth Kidambi, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Chirag Shetty have graced the courts, showcasing their talent and setting the stage for their future successes. The tournament will feature competitions in Under-19 Boys’ and Girls’ Singles & Doubles, as well as Mixed Doubles categories. As part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) circuit, it offers participants an opportunity to earn valuable ranking points and gain international exposure.
