Pune: Gym Trainer Arrested for Selling Banned Bodybuilding Injections
Katraj, 25th August 2025: The city’s fitness community was jolted after Ambegaon police arrested a gym trainer for allegedly selling banned bodybuilding injections to youngsters. The accused, identified as Sagar Sainath Vetal (33), was caught outside Sai Gym in Santosh Nagar, Katraj, while attempting to supply the drugs.
During the raid, police seized 10 vials of Mephentermine Sulphate—a substance banned for non-medical use—along with six insulin syringes. Officials said the injections were being pushed to impressionable bodybuilders seeking quick results.
Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine, who led the operation, said the arrest followed a specific tip-off. “The accused himself worked as a gym trainer, which gave him direct access to youngsters who wanted to build their bodies fast. He took advantage of their aspirations by selling them these banned injections. We have recovered the stock and syringes from his possession,” he said.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Shivaji Patole. Preliminary investigations suggest that Vetal procured the drugs from the city’s wholesale medical market. “We suspect there is a bigger network involved in the distribution of these injections. The investigation has now been handed over to PSI Kalamkar, who is tracing the supply chain,” Inspector Jhine added.
Police said such substances not only pose serious health risks but also fuel a dangerous culture of shortcuts in fitness. “Youngsters must understand that these drugs can cause lasting damage. We will continue cracking down on such illegal practices,” the officer cautioned.
