Kasba Peth, 1st September 2025: The Tvashta Kasar Samaj Sanstha, one of Pune’s oldest Ganesh mandals founded in 1894, is celebrating its 132nd Ganeshotsav with a distinctive theme: “An Exhibition of Old and New Utensils.”

This year’s decoration pays tribute to the legacy of copper, brass, and silverware crafted by the Tambat community, descendants of Tvashta, son of Vishwakarma. Known for their mastery in metalwork, the community has safeguarded this craft for generations in Pune’s Tambat Ali and across Konkan.

On display is a wide collection of traditional household utensils, including kalshi, handi, ghada, tea kettles, storage dabbas, bhatukli (miniature play utensils), pooja articles, and copper idols. The exhibition seeks to connect today’s audiences with the artistry, cultural symbolism, and heritage value embedded in these objects.

“Our aim this year is to preserve traditional objects and acquaint the younger generation with utensils used in earlier times. These vessels are not merely articles of daily use but carriers of heritage, artistry, and family memories,” said Saurabh Sanjay Nizampurkar, President of the Ganeshotsav Committee.

With the spread of stainless steel and plastic, traditional metal utensils had nearly faded from homes. However, their value resurfaced in recent years—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic—when copper and brass gained renewed importance for their health benefits, sparking fresh interest in the craft.

The theme, “Anandi Sansar” (Joyful Household), blends tradition with modern relevance while evoking nostalgia. Elderly visitors recall household memories, while women are reminded of Chaitra Gauri rituals, wedding trousseaus, and childhood bhatukli games.

The committee has extended an open invitation to Punekars to visit the exhibition and experience this cultural journey through time.
