Pune: Southern Command Gold Cup 2025 Showcases Heritage and Equestrian Excellence
Pune, 1st September 2025: The prestigious Southern Command Gold Cup was held on Sunday at Pune, organized by the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Ltd. Renowned for its legacy in the Indian racing calendar, the event witnessed spirited competition and enthusiastic participation from horse racing enthusiasts.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The highlight of the day was the closely contested race, which was won by Moneyfair, ridden by jockey Prashant P. Dhebe. The Army Commander presented the coveted trophy to the winning team and praised the RWITC for the seamless organization of the event.
First held on September 4, 1948, the Southern Command Gold Trophy has a rich history. Originally open to Class II and III horses covering a mile-and-a-half track, the race earned Listed status in 1986 and was elevated to a Grade 3 event in 1999, cementing its position as one of India’s premier equestrian competitions.
