Pune, 1st September 2025: Major General Atul Seth has taken charge as the Dean and Deputy Commandant of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune.

An alumnus of AFMC himself, Maj Gen Seth was commissioned into the Armed Forces in 1992. A specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he completed his MD at AFMC and developed expertise in Minimal Access Surgery and Urogynecology. He further enhanced his academic profile by completing an M.Phil. in Defence and Strategic Studies from the National Defence College, New Delhi.

Over his three-decade-long career, Maj Gen Seth has served in several key medical institutions of the Indian Army. His notable appointments include Professor and Unit Head (Obstetrics & Gynecology) at AFMC, and Head of Department & Consultant at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi.

He is also a respected academician and researcher, having authored numerous papers published in leading national and international journals. Currently, he serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Obstetric and Gynecological Practices (POGS) and as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed medical journals.

Contributions to Medical Education:
Maj Gen Seth has been at the forefront of medical education, having chaired and organized multiple national conferences. He also serves as a postgraduate examiner for the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and for various health universities across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal.

In recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2022. Before assuming his new role at AFMC, he served as Commandant of Military Hospital, Gwalior.

With his extensive experience in clinical care, medical research, and healthcare administration, Maj Gen Seth is expected to further strengthen AFMC’s role as one of India’s premier medical institutions for the Armed Forces.
