Detailed Project Report for Pimpri Chinchwad Pune Metro Expansion Presented
Pimpri, 1st September 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), in collaboration with Pune Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro), convened a meeting at the Phugewadi Metro office to discuss the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed metro network expansion in Pimpri Chinchwad.
The DPR includes several key routes aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity: Bhakti Shakti Chowk–Mukai Chowk, Kiwale–Bhujbhal Chowk, Wakad Sai Chowk, Jagtap Dairy–Kokane Chowk, Nashik Phata–Sant Tukaram Nagar Chowk, Gawali Matha Chowk, Bhosari District Centre, and Godown Chowk–Chakan.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Anna Bansode, Member of Parliament Shrirang Appa Barne, Member of Legislative Council Uma Khapre, MLAs Mahesh Landge and Shankar Jagtap, Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, NHAI Project Director Sanjay Kadam, Maha Metro Director Atul Gadgil, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, Joint City Engineer Bapu Gaikwad and executive engineer Sunil Pawar, former Mayor Dr. Vaishali Ghodekar, former Standing Committee chairman Seema Sawale, and former corporators Rahul Kalate, Shatrughna Kate, and Sachin Chikhale, along with senior officials from Maha Metro.
During the presentation, Maha Metro officials provided detailed insights on the technical, financial, and operational aspects of the project. Public representatives shared their feedback and suggestions, which included modifications in certain alignments, provision for better commuter convenience at Bhujbhal Chowk and Wakad junctions, removal of potential obstructions in Bhosari, and ensuring adequate parking facilities near metro stations. It was also proposed to review the Nashik Phata–Bhosari alignment and examine the feasibility of extending the Godown Chowk–Chakan model further.
Speaking on the occasion, PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh said,”To address the growing challenge of traffic congestion in Pimpri Chinchwad, Maha Metro has prepared a comprehensive DPR for metro expansion. Based on the valuable inputs received from public representatives in today’s meeting, the report will be forwarded to the state government for further action. A meeting with the Hon’ble Chief Minister will also be scheduled soon to take the proposal ahead.”
