Heavy Rain Lashes Pune, Orange Alert Issued; Waterlogging and Tree Falls Reported, Dams Release Water

Pune, 15th September 2025: As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune has been witnessing continuous rainfall since Sunday. Several areas of the city received morning showers on Monday, leading to waterlogging in low-lying spots. The Pune Fire Brigade confirmed it had received 10 calls related to tree falls till 9 am.

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Pune district, warning of heavy rainfall in the ghat regions.

While some private schools in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad declared a holiday due to the downpour, there has been no official closure order from the district administration.

Dams Near Full Capacity

All four dams of the Khadakwasla complex, which supply water to Pune city, are almost full. According to the irrigation department, as of 6 am on September 15, the combined storage was at 29.12 TMC, which is 99.89% of total capacity, compared to 99.94% during the same period last year.

  • Khadakwasla: 98.40% full
  • Panshet: 100% full
  • Warasgaon: 100% full
  • Temghar: 100% full

Authorities confirmed that water is being released into the Mutha river as a precautionary measure. From 10 am, Khadakwasla dam is releasing 14,000 cusecs water.

With heavy rainfall expected to continue in the coming days, officials have urged citizens to remain alert, especially in waterlogging-prone and hilly areas.
