Lonavala, 15th September 2025: A thick blanket of fog enveloped Lonavala and its surrounding areas on Monday morning following light rainfall on Sunday night. The dense fog has drastically reduced visibility to just a few feet, accompanied by intermittent drizzle across the hill station.

Motorists on the Mumbai–Pune National Highway and the Mumbai–Pune Expressway were forced to keep their headlights on as visibility dropped sharply. The reduced clarity has slowed traffic movement, leading to cautious driving and longer travel times on both routes.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the Ghat Matha region of Pune district, warning of heavy rainfall and wind speeds ranging between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Officials noted that the ongoing rainfall activity in Mumbai and Thane has extended its impact to the Lonavala region, intensifying fog and wet conditions in the Ghats.

Meanwhile, the IMD also indicated that the monsoon has begun its retreat, although intermittent spells of rain are likely to continue in Pune district and surrounding Ghat areas.
