Pune, 18th September 2025: Students of colleges affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Nashik districts will have to pay higher examination fees from the upcoming academic year, as the university has announced a 20 percent hike. The university has also shifted to a direct payment system, requiring students to deposit the fees directly into the university’s account instead of paying through colleges.

The decision was taken as per the resolution of the Examination and Evaluation Board and the Management Council of SPPU. A 15 percent hike in examination fees every two years had been approved from the academic year 2018–20. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent circumstances, no fee increase had been implemented in the last seven years.

“Although the pending increase works out to 55 percent, the university has limited the hike to only 20 percent from the academic year 2025–26,” said Dr. Prabhakar Desai, Director-in-Charge, Examination and Evaluation Board, SPPU.

The revised fee structure is linked to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which has brought major changes to examination planning, evaluation, and results at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Along with the hike, the university has also changed the fee collection method. “To ensure stability in the examination fee process, students will now deposit the examination fee directly into the university’s account. The share of colleges will be transferred into their accounts within two days after the fee payment deadline,” Dr. Desai added.

The details of the new fee structure and payment process have been published in a circular available on the university’s official website.
