Pune: Aundh District Hospital to Get Super Speciality and Women’s Hospitals
Aundh, 3rd October 2025: A new super speciality hospital and a women’s hospital are set to be built on the premises of Aundh District Hospital, as proposed by the Public Health Department. The proposal, submitted by District Surgeon Dr. Nagnath Yampalle on September 19, has been sent to the Joint Director of the Health Department for approval.
The plan involves constructing a 200-bed super speciality hospital alongside a 200-bed women’s hospital. The Aundh District Hospital occupies 35 acres of the Public Health Department’s 85.19-acre land in the area. The hospital currently has six old buildings spread over 6,282 square meters, which are considered unsafe for use. By demolishing these structures, an area of 8,140 square meters will become available for the new hospitals.
The proposed super speciality hospital will require an estimated investment of Rs 1,527 crore and the creation of 596 staff positions, while the women’s hospital will need 97 posts. The annual salary expenditure for these employees is projected at Rs 32.31 crore.
With Pune district’s population reaching over 1.25 crore and the presence of two municipal corporations—Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad—along with industrial hubs, IT centres, and educational institutions, authorities say the need for advanced medical facilities has become urgent. Currently, Sassoon General Hospital is the only major government hospital in Pune and is under significant pressure due to the rising population.
“Considering the growth of Pune city and its surrounding areas, a super speciality hospital in Aundh will serve patients from both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad,” the proposal states.
Dr. Bhagwan Pawar, Deputy Director of Health Services, added, “A proposal has been received from the District Surgeon for setting up the hospitals. Work will commence once the Public Health Department grants approval.”
The project is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the city and provide state-of-the-art treatment facilities, particularly for women, who currently do not have a dedicated government women’s hospital in Pune.
