Pune, 6th October 2025: In a bid to make public transport more accessible and citizen-friendly in rural parts of the Pune Metropolitan Region, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) will launch a new passenger-oriented initiative titled ‘Show Hand – Stop Bus’ from October 7, 2025.

The initiative, conceptualized by PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore, aims to make travel easier and more convenient for residents of villages and settlements located along the bus routes under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) jurisdiction.

Currently, PMPML operates 1,922 buses across 388 routes covering Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the PMRDA region. Of these, 558 buses ply on 134 routes within the PMRDA limits, completing 5,518 trips daily.

Under the new system, passengers in rural areas can simply wave their hand to signal the bus, and the driver will stop to allow them to board, even if the location is not a designated bus stop. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and convenience for passengers who live in areas without nearby bus stops.

“PMPML is committed to improving the quality and reach of public transport services,” the transport body stated, urging more passengers in the PMRDA region to take advantage of this facility.

The ‘Show Hand – Stop Bus’ initiative marks another step toward inclusive and passenger-centric public transport, particularly benefiting commuters in the outskirts and semi-rural belts around Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
