Pune Ganeshotsav 2026: Shanipar Mandal Celebrates 134 Years With ‘Shambhala’ Theme

Pune, 14th September 2026: The historic Shanipar Mandal Trust is celebrating its 134th year of Ganeshotsav with a unique and thought-provoking theme based on ‘Shambhala’, bringing together mythology, spirituality and the lesser-known stories associated with ancient Indian traditions.
Known for presenting something different every year, the mandal has once again created an elaborate decoration spread across nearly 2,500 to 3,000 square feet, offering devotees an immersive experience centred around the mysterious world of Shambhala.
Speaking about this year’s concept, Sameer Gaikwad, President of Shanipar Mandal Trust, said that the mandal faces high expectations from devotees every year.
“Every time, we have to do something different because people expect something from us, and their expectations are very high. This year, we have chosen the concept of Shambhala because we want people to know about something that is hidden and lesser known about our Hindu traditions and Hindutva.”
The Shambhala concept draws inspiration from ancient religious traditions and the belief surrounding a sacred land associated with Lord Kalki, the future avatar of Lord Vishnu.
In Puranic traditions, Shambhala is described as the place where Kalki will manifest at the end of the Kali Yuga, with his arrival associated with the restoration of dharma and the beginning of a new age.
The concept has also acquired a wider cultural and spiritual significance through Tibetan Buddhist traditions, where Shambhala is described as a mystical kingdom associated with spiritual wisdom and enlightenment.
At Shanipar Mandal, the idea has been translated into a large-scale decorative setup designed to allow devotees to visually explore the theme while also encouraging them to learn about the mythology behind it.
The 2,500–3,000 sq ft decoration incorporates detailed artistic elements to create the atmosphere of a mysterious and sacred world. The presentation aims to combine traditional religious storytelling with contemporary decoration techniques while keeping the focus on the spiritual significance of the theme.
For Shanipar Mandal, the choice of Shambhala is also part of its continuing effort to present unusual and lesser-known aspects of Indian mythology and traditions before Pune’s Ganeshotsav audience.
As the mandal completes 134 years of Ganeshotsav tradition, the Shambhala theme adds another distinctive chapter to its long-standing association with Pune’s historic Ganeshotsav celebrations.
