MSRDC to Re-Tender 31-Km Solapur Road Section of Pune-Bengaluru Ring Road
Pune, 10th October 2025: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to re-tender the 31-kilometer-long section of Solapur Road to the Pune-Bengaluru Ring Road, which was recently transferred from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Officials say the move is expected to reduce the overall cost of the project.
Earlier, MSRDC had floated tenders for the western and eastern parts of the Ring Road. At that time, companies submitted bids 40–45 percent higher than the estimated cost, pushing the projected cost from Rs 22–23 thousand crore to around Rs 40 thousand crore.
After the 31-km Solapur Road section was handed over by NHAI, MSRDC floated tenders for the work in three phases, estimating a cost of Rs 5,094 crore. However, the bids received totaled Rs 6,733 crore — Rs 1,597 crore more than the estimate, a 35 percent increase. This would have pushed the Ring Road’s total cost beyond Rs 40,000 crore.
“In view of these high bids and recent changes in GST rates on construction materials such as cement and steel, we have decided to cancel the existing tender and re-tender the project. The process will start soon,” said Rahul Vasaikar, Superintendent Engineer, MSRDC.
The Ring Road project, aimed at easing traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, has been divided into eastern and western sections. Meanwhile, NHAI is constructing the Green Corridor between Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The two roads intersect at certain points, which initially led to the decision to let NHAI handle the 31-km section. However, the work has now been handed back to MSRDC.
