Undri, 29th October 2025: Residents of Godrej Prana Co-operative Housing Society Ltd. in Undri have expressed serious concern over irregular garbage collection by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), alleging that the negligence has caused severe health and hygiene problems in the area.

According to a statement issued by the society’s management committee, the garbage collection vehicle designated by PMC has been visiting the society only once every two to three days — and sometimes not at all — instead of adhering to the mandated daily schedule. Residents said the problem has persisted for several months and worsened over the past week.

The last garbage collection reportedly took place on October 24, after which no vehicle visited for more than five consecutive days. As a result, waste bins are overflowing, and garbage has piled up around the premises, leading to foul odours, pest infestations, and unhygienic conditions affecting more than 2,000 residents in and around the society.

Residents allege that despite regularly paying property taxes and other civic levies, they continue to face issues with essential services such as waste collection, water supply, sewage management, and road maintenance. The society’s committee stated that multiple complaints and follow-ups with PMC officials have yielded no lasting solution.

“This continued inaction represents a serious lapse in governance and public health management,” the committee said in its statement, urging the civic body to immediately restore regular garbage collection services.

The residents have demanded that the PMC:
Resume daily waste collection immediately and ensure consistent operations.
Establish an accountability mechanism to monitor garbage collection schedules.
Address broader civic concerns in Undri, including water supply, sewage, and road maintenance.

While residents have expressed willingness to cooperate with PMC in maintaining cleanliness, they emphasized that the civic administration must uphold its basic responsibility of ensuring public health and sanitation.
