Pune: PMC Branch Engineer Akash Dhenge Suspended for Negligence in Sewerage Work in Shewalewadi and Manjari
Pune, 3rd November 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended Akash Dhenge, Branch Engineer of the Sewerage and Maintenance Repair Department, for alleged negligence in sewage and maintenance work in the Shewalewadi and Manjari areas under the Hadapsar–Mundhwa Ward Office.
The suspension order was issued following an inspection by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, who found large-scale irregularities in the department’s work. Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur has also directed a detailed departmental inquiry into Dhenge’s conduct.
During the Commissioner’s inspection, several serious lapses were observed — including unrepaired and broken sewer chambers along the roadside, neglected cleaning of ducts on the Solapur Road stretch, and chambers left in hazardous conditions, posing a risk to public safety. A report submitted by the Chief Engineer of the Drainage Department confirmed that Dhenge, who was responsible for these works, had shown gross negligence and carelessness in duty.
Following this, a show-cause notice was issued to Dhenge. However, according to PMC officials, his written explanation was “unsatisfactory and inconsistent.” Based on the findings and the failure to justify the lapses, Dhenge was suspended from municipal service, pending an account-wise inquiry ordered by Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur.
Allegations of Bogus Disability Certificates
In a related matter, it has come to light that Akash Dhenge allegedly possesses two separate disability certificates, both issued by Chhatrapati Pramilaraje (CPR) District Hospital in Kolhapur.
The first certificate, dated December 21, 2016, states a 63% disability, while the second, dated January 20, 2017, records a 55% disability. Both certificates were reportedly issued by the same doctor, raising doubts about their authenticity. A written complaint regarding the allegedly bogus certificates has been filed with the Pune Municipal Corporation, prompting further scrutiny into the matter.
