Sadhu Vaswani Mission Observes Guru Nanak Jayanti with Modikhana Seva in Pune

Camp, 5th November 2025: The Sadhu Vaswani Mission in Pune celebrated Guru Nanak Jayanti on Wednesday with the traditional Modikhana Seva, Guru Langar, and Satsangs that continued till midnight, drawing hundreds of devotees in an atmosphere of devotion and service.

The Guru Nanak Modikhana tradition was originally introduced by Sadhu Vaswani as a unique way to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. On this day, he would open a “Modikhana” — a storehouse — where groceries and essentials, first offered to Guru Nanak, were distributed among the poor.

Continuing this legacy, the Mission organized the annual Modikhana Seva at its Pune headquarters. Devotees came forward with heartfelt offerings for the underprivileged, and under the guidance of Didi Krishna Kumari, Head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, a total of ₹2,40,731 was collected.

With these contributions, 150 needy families received grocery kits containing 1 kg each of sugar, sabudana, peanuts, matki, rajma, chavli, moong, tur dal, besan, kala chana, chole, and moong dal.

In addition to food items, the Mission provided hygiene and household essentials, including utensils, bath and clothes soaps, coconut oil, napkins, towels, toothpaste, two single bedsheets, and two gowns — ensuring that both nutritional and daily living needs were met.

During the afternoon satsang, Didi Krishna Kumari reflected on the spiritual essence of Guru Nanak’s teachings, calling him “a man of light — the light being that of love.” She explained that Guru Nanak revealed through his life that true love is not merely a sentiment but a state of being marked by three signs — total identification, humility, and service.

“These hallmarks of love,” she said, “are the essence of the Guru’s message to humanity.”

A devotee, Narwani, shared his thoughts on the occasion: “To see a sacred event like Guru Nanak Jayanti being celebrated through acts of service that uplift the needy is deeply inspiring.”

The evening satsang featured devotional kirtans dedicated to Guru Nanak and recorded talks highlighting his life and teachings. The celebrations continued late into the night with more bhajans and kirtans to mark the Guru’s birth anniversary.
