Pune: Vice Admiral Anil Jaggi Assumes Charge as Commandant of National Defence Academy
Khadakwasla, 9th November 2025: Vice Admiral Anil Jaggi has taken over as Commandant of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, from Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, on November 1, 2025.
An alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, Vice Admiral Jaggi was commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 1, 1993. A Navigation and Direction specialist, he brings with him over three decades of distinguished service, during which he has held a range of operational, staff, diplomatic, and instructional appointments. He has commanded the missile vessel INS Veer and the indigenously built Shivalik-class stealth guided missile frigate INS Sahyadri.
A graduate of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, and the Naval War College, Goa, Vice Admiral Jaggi has also completed the United Nations Observer Course from SWEDINT, Sweden. His instructional tenures include serving as a Divisional Officer at the Indian Naval Academy and as an instructor at DSSC, Wellington.
As a Commodore, he gained extensive experience in international defence cooperation, serving as the Naval Adviser at the High Commission of India in London and later as Commodore (Foreign Cooperation) at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi. Following his promotion to Rear Admiral, he commanded the Gujarat, Daman, and Diu Naval Area.
Before assuming his new role at NDA, Vice Admiral Jaggi served as Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area, overseeing coastal defence and various welfare and infrastructure initiatives under the Western Naval Command. During this tenure, he also played a key role in civil-military coordination, community outreach, and liaison with state authorities.
With Vice Admiral Anil Jaggi at the helm, the National Defence Academy is expected to continue its legacy of excellence in grooming future leaders of the Indian Armed Forces. Under his leadership, the Academy will maintain its strong focus on joint training and the tri-services ethos that defines this premier institution.
