Pune Police Hand Back 209 Recovered Mobile Phones Worth Rs 28.35 Lakh in Zone 4 Drive
Pune, 28th November 2025: In a coordinated public service initiative, Pune City Police have returned 209 lost and missing mobile phones, valued at Rs 28.35 lakh, to residents across Zone 4. The devices were handed over during a specially organised programme held at Yerawada Police Station on Thursday.
The drive was part of an ongoing citywide directive issued by the Police Commissioner to streamline the process of returning recovered phones to citizens. Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Manoj Patil led the event and personally handed over many of the devices to their owners.
All 10 police stations under Zone 4 contributed to identifying and tracing the phones.
Tracking Through CEIR and ‘Lost & Found’ Systems
According to officials, the recovery operation relied heavily on data from the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal along with complaints filed on the Pune Police’s dedicated Lost & Found platform. These tools enabled investigators to match seized and recovered devices with registered complaints.
Several recipients expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting that the emotional value of the phones far exceeded their monetary worth. Many shared that their devices contained essential documents, irreplaceable photos, or personal messages.
“We didn’t imagine we would get our mobiles back. This initiative has genuinely boosted our confidence in the police system,” said a group of beneficiaries.
The event saw the presence of several senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Manoj Patil, DCP Zone 4 Somay Munde, ACP Vitthal Dabhade of Khadki Division, and ACP Pranjali Sonawane of Yerawada Division. Senior police inspectors, officers from all Zone 4 police stations, and a large number of citizens also attended the programme, reflecting strong public and administrative participation.
Officials noted that the initiative reflects the police department’s broader commitment to improving citizen services and enhancing trust in law enforcement. Pune Police plan to continue conducting similar recovery drives across other city zones.
