Pune, 1st December 2025: With the Panshet–Varasgaon dam belt witnessing a sharp rise in tourist footfall in recent weeks, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is working on a proposal to expand its dedicated tourist bus operations. The transport utility said that a growing number of domestic and international travellers are now opting for its tourism routes, prompting the need for additional services.

PMPML has been running tourism and temple-tour buses to several well-frequented destinations such as Lonavala, Ranjangaon Ganpati, Baneshwar Temple and Yamai Mata Temple. Officials note that these routes have consistently attracted steady passenger numbers, especially during weekends and holiday seasons.

The surge in visitors to the Panshet and Varasgaon areas—popular for their scenic views, pleasant climate and winter tourism—has been particularly notable. Although PMPML currently operates a limited number of buses to the region, operational constraints and a shortage of vehicles have restricted service frequency.

However, this limitation is expected to ease soon. PMPML is scheduled to receive new buses over the next couple of months, after which the transport body intends to deploy exclusive tourist services to Panshet and Varasgaon from various parts of the city. The planned expansion is likely to benefit not only tourists but also residents from adjoining rural pockets who rely on PMPML’s connectivity.

Sharing details about the upcoming initiative, PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore said the authority aims to further strengthen its tourism portfolio. “We are planning to introduce additional tourist bus services shortly to improve the experience for visitors. These buses will operate from multiple locations across Pune, benefiting both PMPML and travellers keen to explore these destinations,” he said.
