Pune: District Administration Begins Review of Government Land Allotments
Pune, 2nd December 2025: The Pune district administration has launched a detailed review of all Class-II lands — plots allotted on occupancy rights or lease to temples, hereditary service holders, tribal communities, and various government departments. The inspection drive, being carried out by tehsildars, aims to verify whether these lands are being used in accordance with the conditions set at the time of allotment.
The initiative follows multiple complaints and reports of irregularities in recent months. Suspected illegal transactions have been detected on plots reserved for the Botanical Garden in Mundhwa, the Agriculture Department in Bopodi, and the Animal Husbandry Department in Tathawade.
Officials said the sharp rise in land prices in recent years has led to an increase in unauthorised transfers, commercial use, and encroachment on government-allotted land. Taking serious note of this, District Collector Jitendra Dudi has instructed tehsildars to carry out on-ground inspections and submit detailed findings.
As part of the verification process, officials will examine the year of original allotment, the terms and restrictions applicable, present land use, and whether any unauthorized rentals or transfers have taken place. Panchanamas will be prepared during the field assessment to maintain accurate records.
