Pune Woman Falls Victim to Loan App Scam, Threatened with Morphed Obscene Images
Nanded City, 9th January 2026: A case of loan app fraud and cyber harassment has been reported in Pune, indicating that loan app scammers may be active again despite a recent decline in such incidents nationwide. A newlywed woman has filed a complaint with the Nanded City police after being cheated and threatened with morphed obscene images.
According to the Pune police, the woman, who runs a dance class, had applied for a small business loan through Paytm. Shortly after submitting the application, she received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed that the loan would be approved immediately and asked her to share KYC documents, application forms, photographs and selfies. She was also sent a suspicious link.
The caller later informed her that ₹2,500 was allegedly pending from a previous loan and said a new loan would not be sanctioned unless the amount was paid. Although she had never taken a loan earlier, the woman paid the amount due to her financial needs. The accused then demanded an additional ₹1,000, abused her over the phone and threatened to upload her photographs on social media if the money was not paid. He also sent her morphed obscene images.
Distressed by the harassment, the woman approached the Nanded City police station and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case of cyber fraud and are investigating the matter. Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal information, documents or clicking on unknown links received through calls or messages.
