Indian Army Invites Applications for Short Service Commission Technical Course 2026; 350 Posts Open for Engineers
New Delhi, 9th January 2026: The Indian Army has announced the commencement of the recruitment process for the Short Service Commission (SSC) Technical Course 2026, opening the door for engineering graduates to join the force as commissioned officers. A total of 350 vacancies have been notified for eligible male and female candidates across various engineering disciplines.
Online applications opened on January 7, 2026, through the Army’s official recruitment website. While male applicants can apply until February 5, 2026, the deadline for female candidates is February 4, 2026. Candidates selected through the recruitment process will report for pre-commissioning training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya, Bihar, beginning October 2026.
The announced vacancies cover a wide range of engineering branches:
Mechanical Engineering – 101 posts
Civil Engineering – 75 posts
Electronics and Communication – 64 posts
Computer Science and Information Technology – 60 posts
Electrical Engineering – 33 posts
Ballistics and Laser Technology – 17 posts
Applicants must possess an engineering degree in the relevant discipline as specified in the official notification. Only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible for this entry.
Age Criteria and Selection Procedure
Candidates must be between 20 and 27 years of age as on October 1, 2026, implying a date of birth between October 1, 1999, and September 30, 2006.
The selection process involves multiple stages, beginning with online registration and shortlisting based on academic credentials. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a five-day Services Selection Board (SSB) interview, followed by a medical examination. Final selection will be based on merit, after which joining instructions will be issued.
SSB interviews are scheduled to be conducted between April and June 2026, with candidates allowed to choose their preferred interview dates and centres in March 2026. Those selected will undergo 49 weeks of rigorous training at OTA, Gaya.
