Pune, 12th January 2026: In a bid to ensure maximum voter turnout in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections, the administration has directed private offices, establishments, and industries to grant leave or provide time off to employees on polling day. Voting for the PMC elections will be held on January 15.

Deputy Commissioner Prasad Katkar said orders have been issued instructing private employers to either declare a holiday for employees on polling day or allow them a minimum of two hours to cast their vote. The move aims to ensure that no voter is deprived of exercising their franchise due to work commitments or office hours.

The administration has underlined that participation in the democratic process is the right and duty of every citizen. Private establishments are expected to strictly comply with the directive and ensure that employees are given adequate time to vote.

Officials have warned that action may be taken against establishments found obstructing employees from voting on election day. The order also clearly states that no salary deductions are permitted for employees who take time off during working hours to cast their vote.

To boost voter turnout in the PMC elections, the administration, election machinery, and various social organisations are conducting voter awareness campaigns across the city.

Deputy Commissioner Katkar has appealed to citizens to step out in large numbers and vote fearlessly, reiterating that voting is both a fundamental right and a civic responsibility.
