Pune: Illegal Vendors Face Action Again as PMC Clears Encroachments in Warje–Karvenagar

Karvenagar, 27th February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation carried out another major anti-encroachment drive in the Warje–Karvenagar area, taking strict action against unauthorised commercial establishments that had resurfaced despite repeated warnings from the civic administration.

The joint action was conducted on February 26 under Ward Circle No. 3 in the Warje–Karvenagar jurisdiction, covering encroachments along the riverbed and the Karvenagar DP Road area. Civic officials said similar drives had been carried out earlier in the same locality, but encroachments continued, prompting the administration to launch a renewed crackdown.

Personnel from the Maharashtra Security Force, civic labourers and officials from the Encroachment Removal Department participated in the operation. The drive was executed by Encroachment Inspector Mandar Rajkumar Karje, Assistant Encroachment Inspectors Pratik Sanap and Madhav Bahiram from the Sinhagad Road regional office, and Akanksha Khode from the Dhankawadi–Sahakarnagar regional office. The action was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment and Unauthorised Construction Removal Department Somnath Bankar, senior officials, Chief Security Officer Dr Ramesh Shelar, and Assistant Municipal Commissioner Asmita Tambe-Ghumare.

During the operation, civic teams seized material loaded across five trucks. The seized items included nine handcarts, 20 miscellaneous items, 22 gas cylinders, 45 tin sheds and stalls, one counter and 10 iron grills. Chairs, tables, signboards and other commercial materials were also removed from the site.

Officials said unauthorised vendors operating along the riverbed and DP Road were causing traffic congestion and posing serious public safety concerns. Despite earlier notices and warnings issued by the administration, the encroachments had continued, making strict action unavoidable.

Encroachment Inspector Mandar Karje issued a clear warning, stating that such drives against illegal encroachments would continue regularly and that no leniency would be shown to violators.

Civic officials noted that encroachments have reappeared in parts of Warje–Karvenagar even after previous actions. As a result, the administration has adopted a more aggressive approach and has cautioned encroachers of sustained action in the coming days. The drive is aimed at keeping public spaces clear, ensuring smooth traffic flow and improving safety for residents, officials added.
