Pune: Late-Night Alcohol Consumption Near Symbiosis Ground Triggers Safety Fears in Viman Nagar
Viman Nagar, 27th February 2026: Citing growing safety concerns in Viman Nagar, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) ward 3 corporator Aishwarya Surendra Pathare on Thursday met senior officials of the Airport (Vimantal) Police Station along with local residents and submitted a formal representation demanding immediate action.
The delegation met Senior Police Inspector Govind Jadhav, in-charge of Airport Police Station, raising complaints about alleged late-night alcohol consumption and drug use by minors and other individuals at public places, particularly near Symbiosis Ground and the Durgamata temple area. Residents said such incidents have been reported repeatedly over the past few days, especially during late-night hours.
According to the complaints, large gatherings are seen at these locations until late at night, following which empty liquor bottles, broken glass, and other waste are dumped in the area, leading to unhygienic conditions. Locals said the situation has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, especially among women, senior citizens, and families residing nearby.
Taking note of the seriousness of the issue, Pathare and the residents urged the police to start special night patrolling in the Symbiosis Ground and surrounding Viman Nagar areas on a daily basis between 7 pm and 1 am. They also demanded strict action against those consuming alcohol in public places and individuals disturbing law and order.
Aishwarya said maintaining safety, peace, and a clean environment for residents must be a priority and called upon the police administration to implement effective measures without delay.
Residents expressed hope that increased police presence and enforcement would deter anti-social activities and restore a sense of security in the locality.
The police officials assured the delegation that the complaints would be examined and necessary action would be taken to address the concerns raised by citizens.
