Direct Metro Connectivity to Pune Airport Finalised, Says Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol

Pune, 3rd March 2026: Direct metro connectivity to Pune International Airport at Lohgaon has been finalised after discussions on six different route options, Union Minister of State and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol said on Monday.
Addressing the media after a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials from various departments, Mohol said the airport must be connected by metro and efforts had been underway for the same. “After deliberations on six possible routes, a practical alignment has been finalised. The airport will now be directly linked through a metro corridor,” he said.
Mohol also informed that instructions have been issued to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Khadakwasla to Hinjawadi metro route.
Review of 16 Key Development Projects
The meeting, held at the Government Rest House, focused on 16 major development projects considered crucial for the future growth of Pune city and its surrounding areas. Mohol directed officials to ensure that all projects are completed within stipulated timelines and maintain quality standards.
Work on the Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi metro corridors is expected to begin soon. The Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar metro line, being executed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), is 94 percent complete. Of the 23 stations on this route, 13 are planned to be completed by the end of April.
Road Expansion, Airport Development Plans
Mohol said road widening and beautification work on the Yerawada Jail to Pune International Airport stretch and the Kalyani Nagar to Airport road will commence shortly. Land acquisition, where required, will also be initiated.
Discussions were also held regarding the construction of an alternative road around the airport to facilitate the proposed runway expansion.
Under the National River Conservation Project, Mohol reviewed the river improvement and rejuvenation works and instructed officials to expedite progress. He also directed authorities to complete the remaining storage tanks, pipelines and meter installations under the Equal Water Supply Scheme at the earliest.
Addressing concerns over rising pollution levels in recent days, Mohol called for immediate corrective measures. He also instructed the administration to make city footpaths encroachment-free.

Medical College, Memorial Projects Reviewed
Mohol reviewed the progress of the new building and hostel construction of Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College, conceptualised during his tenure as Standing Committee Chairman and implemented through the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). He directed that the work be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
He also reviewed the progress of several memorial and redevelopment projects, including the Swarajya Memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at NDA (Chandani) Chowk, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Memorial at Deccan Gymkhana, the redevelopment of Bal Gandharva Rangmandir, Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray Kalamandir at Kothrud, Gadima Memorial and Lahuji Vastad Salve Memorial. Officials were instructed to expedite all pending works.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Deputy Mayor Parashuram Wadekar, BJP city president Dheeraj Ghate, Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, MahaMetro Executive Director Shravan Hardikar, Lohgaon Airport Director Santosh Dhoke, Air Force officials and senior representatives from various government departments.
