Pune: PMC Demolishes 75,000 Sq Ft of Illegal Constructions in Lohgaon–Wagholi Anti-Encroachment Drive

Lohgaon, 4th March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in the Lohgaon to Wagholi belt, demolishing around 75,000 square feet of illegal constructions, officials said.

The action was initiated at 9 am following directions from the Municipal Commissioner and was conducted under the supervision of Somnath Bankar, Deputy Commissioner, Encroachment/Unauthorized Construction Removal Department, and Dr Ramesh Shelar, Chief Security Officer and Assistant Head of the department.

According to the civic body, the demolished structures included temporary and permanent sheds and other unauthorized constructions spread across the Pune Peth Lohgaon to Wagholi area.

Senior officials present during the drive included Saurabh Kharat, Kokate and Sangram Pawar, Junior Engineer from the Building Development Department, and Irfan Shaikh, Deputy Engineer, Building Department.

For the demolition operation, the PMC deployed 20 municipal police personnel and 70 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) jawans. The civic team used 15 JCB machines, 15 gas cutters and 15 breakers. Additionally, 30 assistant encroachment inspectors, 15 encroachment inspectors and 200 labourers were engaged in the operation.

PMC officials said the drive was part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal construction and encroachment in rapidly developing areas such as Lohgaon and Wagholi.
