Pune, 9th March 2026: Traffic movement around the busy junction near Savitribai Phule Pune University has returned to normal after authorities restored two-way traffic on key roads in the Baner–Pashan corridor following the completion of major infrastructure works.

The decision was implemented by the Pune Traffic Police after the metro corridor and the double-decker flyover at the junction were completed and opened for use.

The intersection, popularly known as Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk and officially called Acharya Anand Rishiji Chowk on Ganeshkhind Road, had been operating under traffic diversions for a long period due to the construction of the Pune Metro line and the development of the two-level flyover.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said that when metro construction began at the junction, authorities had introduced several traffic modifications to manage congestion. As part of those arrangements, two-way traffic was suspended and one-way movement was enforced on multiple surrounding roads.

These restrictions affected key connecting routes linking Pashan Road, Baner Road and Abhimanashree Society Road.

“With the completion of the metro corridor and the double-decker flyover at the junction, the temporary traffic arrangements have now been withdrawn and two-way traffic has been restored,” Jadhav said.

Roads Where Two-Way Traffic Has Been Resumed
Traffic authorities confirmed that two-way movement has been reinstated on the following routes:
-Road from University Chowk towards Abhimanashree Society and Baner Road
-Route connecting Pashan to Abhimanashree Society up to University Chowk
-Road linking Abhimanashree Society towards Pashan and Baner

The traffic police have also issued guidance for motorists to ensure smoother movement in the area. Drivers travelling from Baner Phata or those heading from Abhimanashree Society towards Pashan have been advised to take a right turn near the Sakal Nagar area to reach their destinations conveniently.

Officials said the restoration of two-way traffic is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce congestion along the busy Baner–Pashan corridor, which serves as a major access route to the university area and surrounding neighbourhoods in Pune.
