No Additional Water Cuts in Pune Until Canal Committee Meeting: PMC Mayor
Pune, 28th October 2026: Mayor Manjusha Nagpure on Wednesday said Pune would not face any additional water cuts for now, directing officials to maintain the existing 10% curtailment until the canal committee meets on Monday to decide the city’s water allocation.
Nagpure had called a meeting to discuss the irrigation department’s demand for a 20% water cut, but postponed it, saying no hasty decision would be taken before discussions at the canal committee meeting.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sought an allocation of 21 TMC of water, citing the city’s requirements. However, the irrigation department has approved only 11.33 TMC for Pune, against 16 TMC supplied last year, leaving a shortfall of nearly 5 TMC.
The canal committee meeting, scheduled for Monday under the chairpersonship of deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar, will decide water allocations for Pune city and rural areas amid drought conditions.
The water resources department has proposed a 20% cut and is reportedly willing to reserve 15 TMC for drinking water requirements over the next 10 months. The extent of any further curtailment will be decided after the meeting.
