Pune: Maharashtra Govt Considers 572 Hectares in Purandar for New IT Park
Mumbai/Pune, 14th March 2026: The Maharashtra government is considering setting up a new IT park in Purandar taluka to address traffic congestion and infrastructure constraints in the Hinjawadi IT Park area and to prevent the relocation of IT companies from Pune. Industries Minister Dr. Uday Samant informed the Legislative Assembly that the project will be expedited once the land transfer process being handled by the revenue department is completed.
Samant said the proposed land will be transferred to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for the development of the IT park.
The issue was raised in the Assembly by MLA Vijay Shivtare, who pointed out that some IT companies are considering shifting out of Hinjawadi due to severe traffic congestion and inadequate infrastructure. Shivtare sought clarification from the government on its plan to transfer government-owned grazing land in the villages of Dive, Kodit and Chambli in Purandar taluka for the proposed IT park.
During the discussion, Minister of State Indranil Naik said Purandar is a suitable location for an IT park. He added that a preliminary decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the Industries Department in 2025.
Naik further said a formal proposal was received on October 15, 2025. Subsequently, on February 27, 2026, the Industries Department and MIDC requested the revenue department to transfer around 572 hectares of land for the project.
He noted that since the land belongs to the government, the overall cost of the project would be relatively lower. The revenue department will need to place the proposal before the state cabinet, and once cabinet approval is granted, the process of land transfer and project implementation will be carried out on priority, Naik said.
